Capture the Flag in Five
Take
what you can.
Keep
stolen treasures at hand:
leftovers, old gum and ear wax.
all ways hardened.
Bury,
impassive, indifferent, and snide,
bruises beneath a toothy grin, a tithe
for all the stumbling loves—
—that keep you dim and fumbling,
a round marble in the deep,
a stony, knuckled hoard always
at your fingertips.
Hide
inside the den of grins and lies.
Leave
those yielding or tender
that go soft, or grieve.
for some round comfort in the night.
your dreams to chase their aching need
to fill the muddy, vacant caverns
with substance
timely and cheap.
